Simply making the decision to go into business for yourself borderlines on insanity. They’ll be times when that insanity is drowned out by pure passion. Other times, you’ll just ask yourself, “What the heck am I doing?”
If you’re going to make it through the long haul, you’ll have to learn how to motivate yourself when you’re feeling low. Try these three helpful tips.
Talk to Friends and Colleagues– As you’re knee deep in a rough patch, the natural reaction for most is to retreat into a hermit state. Rather than forcing yourself to deal with things on your own, consult your peers, mentors, and partners for clarity and some helpful words of advice.
Step Away– Overworking yourself isn’t the answer to your problems. You’ll continue to burn yourself out without solving anything. It’s ok to take a break and allow yourself to breathe. Go do something you enjoy, recharge your batteries, and come back refreshed and rejuvenated.
Reprioritize Your Goals- If whatever you’re after seems too large to reach, try setting some smaller goals and focusing on them. Dividing a major accomplishment into more reasonable tasks makes the big goal less intimidating.
Take the same approach when working on financial goals. Rather than focusing on making a million dollars, appreciate the first few thousand that come your way.
